Yankees Dominate Early Innings

The Yankees started the game strong, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the first three innings. They continued to add to their advantage, scoring two more runs in the fifth inning to make it 5-0.

Yankees' starting pitcher Gerrit Cole was brilliant in the early going, striking out 11 batters in six innings. He allowed only two hits and walked two.

Red Sox Rally Late

The Red Sox, however, refused to go down quietly. They began chipping away at the Yankees' lead in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to make it 5-2.

They continued to rally in the eighth inning, tying the game at 5-5 on a three-run homer by Xander Bogaerts.

Epic Battle Ensues

The game remained tied through the next 10 innings, with both teams having chances to win. The Red Sox had a runner on third with one out in the 12th inning, but couldn't bring him home.

The Yankees had a chance to win in the 17th inning, but Aaron Judge struck out with runners on first and second.

Dramatic Walk-Off Win

In the bottom of the 19th inning, the Red Sox finally broke through. With two outs, Alex Verdugo singled to center field, driving in Trevor Story with the winning run.

The Fenway Park crowd erupted in cheers as the Red Sox celebrated their dramatic victory.

Historic Night

The game was the longest in the history of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry and the third-longest in Major League Baseball history.

It was also the first time that the Red Sox had walked off against the Yankees in extra innings since 2004.

The win marked the first time that the Red Sox had won a game that had gone into extra innings this season.
