Volleyball powerhouses Texas and Wisconsin to face off in Final Four
Texas Longhorns and Wisconsin Badgers to meet in NCAA semifinals
AUSTIN, Texas – Two of the most storied programs in NCAA volleyball history will square off in the national semifinals on Thursday night, as the No. 1-seeded Texas Longhorns host the No. 4-seeded Wisconsin Badgers at the Erwin Center.
Longhorns riding high after Big 12 title
Texas (29-1) is coming off a dominant performance in the Big 12 tournament, where they swept all three of their opponents. The Longhorns have won 14 straight matches and have not lost a set since October 29th.
Wisconsin (28-3) is also playing well, having won 10 of their last 11 matches. The Badgers won the Big Ten tournament championship last weekend, defeating No. 3-seed Nebraska in the final.
Texas and Wisconsin have met twice this season
The two teams have already met twice this season, with Texas winning both matches. The Longhorns won 3-1 in Madison on October 1st, and then swept the Badgers 3-0 in Austin on November 25th.
Matchup to feature two of the nation's top players
The matchup will feature two of the nation's top players in Texas' Logan Eggleston and Wisconsin's Dana Rettke.
- Eggleston is a two-time All-American and the Big 12 Player of the Year.
- Rettke is a three-time All-American and the Big Ten Player of the Year.
The winner of Thursday's match will advance to the NCAA championship match on Saturday night.
