Second Round of Voting
French President Emmanuel Macron took a huge gamble in dissolving parliament and calling for the elections after his centrists were trounced in regional polls. The second round of voting saw voters turn out in numbers across the country to cast their ballots.
Jean-Luc Melenchon, a leader in the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP), waved to supporters after partial results in the second round. The NFP made significant gains in the election, challenging Macron's centrist party.
The final results of the election will determine the makeup of the French parliament and the direction of French politics for the next five years.
