Dickey Betts, the singer-songwriter and guitarist of the Allman Brothers Band, has passed away at the age of 80. Betts was known for his piercing solos and beloved songs, which helped define the Southern rock genre of the 1960s and 1970s.

Betts was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, on December 12, 1943. He began playing guitar at an early age and joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1969. The band quickly rose to fame, and Betts' songs, such as "Ramblin' Man" and "Jessica," became classics.

Betts left the Allman Brothers Band in 1976 to form his own group, Great Southern. He continued to release music throughout his career, and his last album, "Ramblin' Man," was released in 2018.

Betts was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 as a member of the Allman Brothers Band. He was also a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

Betts will be remembered as one of the most influential guitarists and songwriters in American music history. His contributions to Southern rock will continue to inspire musicians for generations to come.
